JUGIT
Posted: May 16th, 2010 | Author: Anthony Weston | Filed under: Other | 3 Comments »This clever new product endorsed by big supermarket chains to try and reduce the amount of waste produced by milk bottles seems to be a move in the right direction. But I ask myself will it work?
After going on my regular shopping trip to Sainsbury’s which is located across the road from my student accommodation I picked up one of the handy JUGIT systems for free. To my knowledge I think they are trying to promote and test if a product like this would work better instead of the conventional two-pint plastic milk bottles. They say that a two-pint milk bag produces 75% less packaging waste than that of a conventional plastic one and that you can recycle the bags in-store since they are made from the same polymer as plastic bags.
So I decided to give it a try for myself. The system works on by placing a bag of milk into the special JUGIT system, well at least thats what is supposed to happen! When I got home from the shops to my horror I found milk all over my groceries, I pulled the bag of milk out and could see that the milk was pouring out of the corners. I knew exactly what had happened here, the corners are obviously the weakest part of the bag and under a certain amount of pressure it starts to leak. SinceĀ I thought this system was such a good idea, I thought lets give it one more chance! Well so far its working great and no leaks with the new bag.
Let me hear what you have to say about this new system and if this idea could work in the long run? maybe you have tried it yourself? let me know and post your comments.

mate, i thought you designed this, was like OMG haha i do like the idea, nice graphics too

I wish dude, good idea though aint it! Currently using one, you should try it out? x
Well you certainly neglected to tell me about the leaking when you made me take one of these anthony.
You let me know how this works out for you and I may consider getting another one which is not broken.
Perhaps if it is successful we could get one for next year!
